How to measure your car-boot for a perfect fit.

Custom made to fit your boot.

The beauty of the Car-Boot Box is that it is bespoke and made to fit the dimensions of your boot.

All you need to do is take the three measurements explained below. That’s it.

How to measure your car-boot.

You’ll need a flat entrance to the boot.

The Car-Boot Box requires a boot with a flat entrance.

Designed for mid to large SUVs, MPVs and estate cars with a flat or slightly raised entrance to the boot.

The Car-Boot Box will not work in this sort of boot.

Our standard boxes can’t be used in cars with a raised lipped entrance to the boot. We can however make a custom version to fit this style of boot. Please contact us for details.

Step 1: Width

Measure the width of the boot entrance.

The box needs to slide into the boot, so make sure you leave a minimum of 2cm either side of the box to allow for easy access.

Allow for any wheel arches.

If you car has wheel arches, measure between the arches instead of the boot entrance, as this is the narrowest part of the boot.

Step 2: Height

Measure-02A.jpg

Decide on the box height.

You can pick any height between 15cm – 35cm. This is often determined by the size of the items you want to carry in the drawers. A good average box height is 25cm, this will give you an internal drawer height of 21cm.

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:

Each box has a 4cm riser at the front, this will be added to the height of your box. You don’t need to include the height of the riser in the dimensions you send us, but you need to be aware that 4cm will be added to the height of the box at the front. The riser ensures that the drawers clear any boot latch fixings or small lips and also tilts the box back slightly, keeping the drawers closed whilst driving.

Make sure your chosen box height still allows you to close the tailgate. A number of modern cars have sloping or angled tailgates, so double check the height of your box does not obstruct it closing. If in doubt, err on the side of caution and reduce either the depth or height of the box to ensure it fits. Also have a good look around the boot at the level the box is going to be, and check no other shapes or angles will restrict it.

Step 3: Depth

Measure-02.jpg

Allow for the angle of the seat.

Set your tape measure to your desired height and measure down vertically from the back of the rear seat. The seat is angled so it’s important you measure vertically down. Where the tape measure touches the floor of the boot, mark it with a ruler or something similar.

Measure the depth.

Now measure from the ruler to the front of the boot. This will give your depth dimension. Make sure you don’t measure right to the entrance of the boot, you need to be at least 3cm inside the boot latch to ensure the boot lid is still able to close.

Print out a copy of our spec sheet, then make a note of you measured width, height and depth - you’ll need them when placing your order.

If you have any difficulty in measuring your boot, please contact us so we can guide you through the process. Alternatively we can measure your boot for you from either our Newbury office or Workshop in Bristol. Call 01488 505065 or email info@car-bootbox.co.uk for further details.

Finally: Maximum and minimum dimensions.

The dimensions of your boot will determine whether one of boot boxes will fit - see the minimum and maximum sizes below.

If your box dimensions are larger or smaller than our minimum and maximum sizes, please contact us at info@car-bootbox.co.uk with the details. We may still be able to make a box for you.

"I have had my custom Car-Boot Box for a while and have to say I am very impressed. The build quality is excellent, simple to assemble and rattle free.

The removable divider in the single drawer is a real bonus, making the box extremely versatile, whether I'm working or doing the supermarket run.

The biggest plus for me though is the added security the box allows.

Leaving valuable kit in the car when I am working is always a worry but knowing my camera bags have an extra layer of protection is very reassuring."
